TICK, TICK BOOM…! a raw, electric, and heartbreakingly real musical by Jonathan Larson, coming to Flight Path Theatre in Marrickville this week as part of the 2025 Sydney Fringe Festival.
Just as Opera Australia launches its season of Rent, CODA (Company of Dramatic Arts), presents Tick, Tick… Boom! which is the much lesser known Musical that came before it! Tick, Tick… Boom! Is a must see for fans of Rent, lovers of the Netflix adaptation, or anyone discovering Larson’s genius for the first time. You can enjoy a glimpse of one of the rehearsal in this viral video on TikTok: Just a snippet of our amazingly talented Lachlan and Jordan rehearsing… | tick tick boom | TikTok
The semi-autobiographical rock musical captures the chaos of ambition, the ache of compromise, and the creative urgency of a young composer trying to make his mark in 1990s New York. Jonathan Larson poured his heart into this piece, and tragically passed away the night before Rent’s Off-Broadway debut. What he left behind is a legacy of storytelling that changed the face of musical theatre and it all started here, with Tick, Tick… Boom!
Directed by Jacob Macri, this stripped-back production features just three performers and a live band. The cast includes, Lachlan Cervolo as Jon, Jordan Berry as Susan, and Myles Burgin as Michael, these powerhouse performers are set to bring Larson’s story to life capturing the friction between art and stability, the hunger for greatness, and the fear of running out of time.
Catch this show as part of the Sydney Frindge Festival, produced by CODA, (Company of Dramatic Arts), this production promises to be more than just a musical. It’s a pulse racing, emotionally charged experience that speaks to anyone who has ever had a dream, doubted themselves, or stood on the edge of a life defining decision.
