MUBI, the global film distributor, streaming service and production company, has announced the streaming release date of APRIL, the latest feature from acclaimed Georgian filmmaker Dea Kulumbegashvili (Beginning), arriving exclusively on MUBI in Australia from 29 August 2025.
APRIL is set in eastern Georgia, and focuses on the morals and professionalism of Nina, an obstetrician-gynecologist, who comes under close scrutiny after a newborn dies during delivery. As an investigation takes place, rumours emerge that Nina performed illegal abortions for desperate women outside of her work.
The film stars Ia Sukhitashvili, Nino Javakhishvili, Temiko Chichinadze and Giorgi Bochorishvili, April features cinematography by Arseni Khachaturan (Bones and All, The Idol, Beginning) and a score by Matthew Herbert (The Wonder).
APRIL had its World Premiere at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, where it was awarded the Special Jury Prize.
