shrek the musical : media call

The first day of the year starts off with a bang  as the world’s favourite ogre comes singing and dancing to the premiere of ‘his’ show SHREK THE MUSICAL.

When the movie Shrek came out it was the first Academy Award winner for the Best Animated Feature. It was the highest growing animated film and still today three of the Shrek films are in the Top Twenty Highest Grossing Animated Films of all time.

A fairytale needs a fairytale cast which features Ben Mingay as Shrek, Lucy Durack as Princess Fiona, Todd McKenney as Lord Farqaad, Nat Jobe as Donkey and Marcia Hines as the Dragon.

With music by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, SHREK THE MUSICAL has received EIGHT TONY AWARD nominations, twelve Drama Desk nominations, ten Outer Critics Circle nominations, three Drama League nominations and a Grammy Award nomination for Best Musical Show Album.

Directed by Jill Sawyer who also  directed the musical in London and for its Uk tour, the show finally lands for the first time on our shore at the Sydney Lyric Theatre, the Star from January 1, 2020.

With a long lead in time for rehearsals the show should be sparkling by the time it opens.
