The world’s biggest short play festival is back in Sydney.

Short+Sweet 2025 is a celebration of play writing, plus the creation of original theatre.

Festival starts from – Thursday 20th February 2025 to Sunday 18th May 2025

In 2025 Short+Sweet features over 100 plays, in the span of just twelve weeks, all are competing for a spot in the Gala Finals, where we award the best of the best.

Each evening from 7pm, audiences will experience an eclectic mix of brand new Australian works, and THIS WEEK Short+Sweet Sydney Week Six – Thursday to Sunday at 7pm, audiences will enjoy a line-up of new plays – all timed at under ten minutes and featuring young writers, directors and performers tackling tropes.

Full range of brand new works brought to the forefront, sharp comedies, existential dramas, surreal horror, poetry, musical, political and inspirational narratives, drive the twelve week season.

WEEK six PROGRAM

(1) BRIDE TO BE

Comedy – Storytelling monologue – Planning the perfect wedding on a not-so-perfect budget. Dreams Meet Dilemmas.

(2) LOVE AND GAMES
Written and directed by Darrell Hoffman
ITC = Hoffperson Productions
STARRING – Michael Sebastian and Catherine G
Drama – A raging saga of love and computer technology, of
gigabytes, megabytes and love bites.

(3) A MEMORABLE ONE
Written by William Boersma
Directed by Dan Maher
STARRING – Angelo Morton and Bridgette Shields
Comedy – A proposal gone wrong leaves a couple panicking
over what to do next.

(4) WHEN SHE LOVES ME
Written and directed by Kai Paynter
ITC = The Americas, A Theatre Company
STARRING – Laura Kiil and Lior Drimer
Comedy – A different kind of love story.

(5) SMART ALEC
Written by Ian McGregor
Directed by Sylvia Vado
STARRING – Michael Monk, Eliza Spowart and Ian McGregor

Comedy – He is smart – but does he have a heart?

(6) PLAIN AND PEARL
Written by Vee Malnar

Comedy – Should some things stay in the Pandora’s Box?

(7) THE EXAM SUPERVISORS

Comedy – The the exam supervisors at a high-school exam cross
line of impartiality as they race towards
guiding their favoured student to victory.

(8) BURNING PALMS
Written by Peter Bloem
Directed by Jonathan Solomon
STARRING – Josh Stanes and Rhys Ward
Drama – Two brothers, separated for thirty years, are reunited
by the death of their father.

(9) I-VS-iCLONE
Written and directed by Paulene Turner
ITC = The Musketeers
STARRING – Debbie Westaway, Liz Hovey and Bob Deacon
Dramedy – In the future: As a war rages between human and
AIs, a police officer from the DARK squad bursts into
a country club to locate and destroy a Clone posing
as a human

(10) LET’S TALK ABOUT SEX
Written by Robin Rice
Directed by Nat Cartney
STARRING – Matt Sapin, Christopher Gaydon, Oliver
Harcourt-Ham and Eadie May
Comedy – Two lusty male bowerbirds vie for the attention of a
naive yet surprisingly discriminating female.

(11) DEATH OF A MAIL-MAN
Written and directed by Carlin Hurdis
STARRING – Murray Fane
Comedy – Storytelling monologue – A postie shares memories as he completes his final
round…

EXPECT – Some plays may contain “crude indecent” adult themes, and strong highly offensive profanities, offensive/coarse language, offensive foul material/themes, moderate alcohol usage, and issues relating to trauma. Recommended only for persons over the age of 18.

The festival’s dynamic season continues with dedicated programs showcasing emerging talent during Youth Week (( 6-9 March 2025 )) and innovative Shakespeare interpretations in ‘Bite-sized Bard’ (( 4-7 April 2025 )), curated by Come You Spirit’s Jo Bloom.

May brings a spectacular Cabaret Week (( 5-8 May 2025 )), featuring an array of singers, dancers, and multidisciplinary artists.

The season culminates in the highly anticipated Semi-Finals and Gala Finals (( 16+17 May 2025 )), where the festival’s most outstanding performances compete for top honours.
