The Salon Des Refuses was instituted by the S.H.Ervin Gallery in 1992 in response to the large number of works entered in to the Archibald Prize which were not selected for display in the official exhibition.
Each year a panel invited by the S.H.Ervin Gallery is selected to go behind the scenes of the judging of both the Archibald Prize for portraiture and the Wynne Prize for landscape painting.
The Gallery selectors chose 38 works from the Archibald Prize and 22 works from the Wynne Prize.
In the National Trust’s charming cafe there are also a number of young Archy portraits that just missed the final cut.
This exhibition closes on the 25th August 2024.
