In my opinion this is one of the best exhibitions’ that the Art Gallery of New South Wales has held in the last twelve months. Firstly, because it is an artistic tour de force, and secondly it is accessible and relatable.
Ron Mueck works with giant figures and also tiny figures with devotion to realism and every detail of the human form from face down to feet.
In particular, when you view the large and lifelike forms you will firstly be struck in awe at the kill on show before you, and then as I did, and then you will smile at the humour of some of the figures.
This is the first retrospective of Mueck’s work and is a must see.
