The Powerhouse has today announced the return of Powerhouse Late, a series of free after-hours events featuring live music, film screenings, workshops, talks and exhibition tours. Activating the Powerhouse every Thursday night from 3 February – 30 June, featured artists include Biliirr, Rainbow Chan, Corin, Lachy Doley, JOY, Del Lumanta, POOKIE, Slaysians, Queer Screen, Ziggy Ramo and Yeo.

Throughout the series, Jordan Gogos, founder of fashion label Iordanes Spyridon Gogos, will present a large-scale installation at the museum entrance while Powerhouse Creative Industry Resident FBi Radio will curate music for the Powerhouse Late Bar outside on the forecourt.

Five Hundred Arhats and Lunar New Year – Thursday 3 February
Powerhouse celebrates Lunar New Year with an evening of Korean dance, music and workshops. Presented in collaboration with the City of Sydney and Korean Cultural Centre, the program includes a K-Pop performance by IMI Dance Studio; a Kimchi making workshop with Korean TV chef Heather Jeong; a roving fashion show of Hanbok (traditional Korean dress) by MiranDay Designs and an exhibition tour of Five Hundred Arhats of Changnyeongsa Temple.
Clay Dynasty – Thursday 10 February
Leading contemporary ceramicists Ebony Russell, Yasmin Smith, Louise Boscacci and Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran join Powerhouse curator Eva Czernis-Ryl to discuss Clay Dynasty and the development of ceramic practice in Australia over the past 50 years. Ceramic artist Sassy Park and National Art School graduates demonstrate live clay modelling.

Graphic Identities – 17 February
Dominic Hofstede of Re:Collection and Mucho launches the Graphic Identities publication with a discussion of the archives that inspired the exhibition. Rizzeria leads a hands-on risograph printing workshop; and a documentary screening of Helvetica explores typography, graphic design and global visual culture in the built environment.

Mardi Gras – 24 February
Powerhouse Late celebrates Mardi Gras with performances by Sydney supergroup Slaysians and film screenings curated by Powerhouse Creative Industries Resident Queer Screen. A talk with Mardi Gras Executive Producer PJ Gahan explores the history of the festival and Powerhouse curator Anni Turnbulldives into Mardi Gras objects in the collection.

Eucalyptusdom – Thursday 3 March and Thursday 30 June
Two late nights delve into the major exhibition Eucalyptusdom. A series of poetry readings curated by Running Dog feature Jazz Money, Dave Drayton, Holly Isemonger and Luke Patterson; Cornersmith’s head fermenter Jaimee Edwards presents a eucalypt honey mead taste-testing session alongside a screening of the Eucalypt documentary series by Remembering the Wild. There will be live music from Biliirr (Nardi Simpson, Lucy Simpson and Jilda Andrews) and a DJ set from Del Lumanta, alongside new commissions by Dirt Witches and Justine Youssef.

Architecture Commission – Thursday 10 March
To celebrate the unveiling of Powerhouse’s third Architecture Commission, Cadeau by Newcastle-based emerging architecture studio Curious Practice, key collaborators will explore the intersection of architecture, engineering and placemaking, followed by a discussion about the future of cities impacted by climate change.

Electric Keys –  Thursday 7 April
A series of live performances by leading contemporary musicians including Ziggy Ramo, Rainbow Chan, Corin, Lachy Doley, JOY, POOKIE, Yeo, Small FRY and Indira Elias will bring to life the distinctive sounds of keyboards from the Electric Keys exhibition, showcasing the instruments’ contribution to jazz, pop, rock, soul, prog-rock and contemporary music.
