POWER UP : WHITE BAY FESTIVAL

I wondered what would become of the White Bay Power station after the successful staging of some artworks from the most recent Sydney Biennale

Recently I had a delightful answer in the form of a festival for inner west creatives of all ages.

Transport from the city came in the form of vintage double decker buses.

Once inside there was something for everyone – live bands, a dinosaur by every, a craft beer trail and the aerial acrobatics of Legs On The Wall.

There were extensive artworks and sculptures in the vast basement hall as well as the beauty and ingenuity of the remaining power station machinery and measuring equipment.

Among the artworks were a series of striking industrial landscapes of the White Bay power station by Jane Bennett who kindly posed for me in front of some of her works.

The festival ran for three days, the 20th to 22nd September – and nights  entertainment was provided by some big names including Josh Pyke.
