OPERANTICS : A CERTAIN SLANT OF LIGHT : THE IMMORTAL WORDS OF EMILY DICKINSON IN SONG AT MOSMAN ART GALLERY

This was an intimate candle lit evening listening to beautiful soprano voices share the stories of Emily Dickinson through her poems.

The scene is set with an insightful introduction to Emily Dickinson’s studied history from Operantics organiser and soprano Katie Miller-Crispe. Joined by two other shining sopranos, Sarah Chelin & Elena Marcello and the brilliant pianist Nathaniel Kong.

You are swept into an era that embodies the life of Emily Dickinson with all sopranos gracing us in a white dress that Emily was historically reported to be seen in.

Sarah performs the first song, with the beloved poem ‘Will there really be a morning’, shown throughout the evening by three different composers. She enlightens us how Emily’s poems have been interpreted differently and thus how the creative mind explores.

Elena and Katie continue the evening alternating between poems in song with all three sopranos giving performances that showcase their soaring vocals and performative talents. This is whilst Nathaniel delights your ears with phenomenal finger gliding pianist skills.

The collaboration between poetic stories, classical music and song is a memorable experience sharing the imagination and expression of powerful emotions of an interesting woman, Emily Dickinson, that many artists and admirers still study today.

With more shows promised to come in 2026, Operantics will delight you with their talented story telling through song.

A CERTAIN SLANT OF LIGHT – the Immortal Words of Emily Dickinson in Song, performed at Mosman Art Gallery, November 21st 2025 and Blackheath Uniting Church Sunday 23rd November, Presented by Operantics.
