COMPANY is a musical comedy which explores love, relationships and the struggle for intimacy – the original production was nominated for a record-setting 14 Tony Awards.
It’s Robert’s birthday – he’s turning 35 and his closest friends are throwing him a surprise party. Witty and well-liked, living in the heart of New York and dating three gorgeous women, Robert has it all … so why can’t he blow out the candles on his birthday cake and make a wish?
Over a series of dinner parties and first dates Robert attempts to understand the pros and cons of marriage from his diverse and frequently hilarious friends and begins to make sense of his own persistent bachelorhood.
COMPANY showcases an energetic score containing many of Stephen Sondheim’s best known songs including Being Alive, Side by Side, The Ladies Who Lunch, Getting Married Today and Company.
A local cast of Newcastle performers has been assembled, with musical theatre artist and Australian Idol Finalist Marty Worrall (Oliver, Chess, Rock of Ages) leading the show as the chronic-bachelor Robert.
Leading the creative team is co-directors Danny Folpp (Beauty and the Beast, Chicago) and
Jody Miller (Be More Chill, Chicago, Heathers) supported by the gifted Mathew Gallimore (Merrily We Roll Along, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder) as Musical Director and Maddie Baillie (Chicago, Ideation, Trevor) in the role of Choreographer. Accomplished Lighting and Sound Designer Jacob Harwood (Chicago, Oliver!, Shrek,Young Frankenstein) and the team at JHProductions will take on all tech elements for the Newcastle season.
The Newcastle season of COMPANY opens at Newcastle Theatre Company, 90 De Vitre Street, Lambton on 14 June, followed by an 11-show season till 24 June.
