This October, New Ghosts Theatre Company (NGTC) will present the inaugural edition of FITZ HAPPENS at the iconic Old Fitz Theatre, launching an exciting new annual tradition dedicated to celebrating and championing Australian playwriting. The season will also launch a dedicated Playwright Fund, established to support Australian playwrights at every stage of their careers.
FITZ HAPPENS will showcase a vibrant collection of themed monologues written by leading Australian playwrights. This year, the season coincides with Halloween – and to celebrate, all five featured pieces take on a spine-tingling twist under the banner HOME IS WHERE THE HAUNT IS.
The two-week season will be directed by Mehhma Malhi, and the pieces have been penned by literary greats Mary Rachel Brown, Nicholas Brown, Kate Mulvany, Louis Nowra and Melanie Tait; to be debuted by a star-studded line up of Belinda Giblin, Kelsey Jeanell, Ava Madon, Jennifer Rani, and Charles Wu.
Every participating artist has generously donated their time and talent. This extraordinary generosity ensures that 100% of proceeds from FITZ HAPPENS will directly benefit the Old Fitz Theatre’s newly established Playwright Fund, an initiative created to champion, commission, and develop the bold new work of Australian playwrights.
In addition, on Thursday 23 October, New Ghosts is participating in the National Giving Day to the Arts, an initiative supported by Creative Australia. This is a new initiative designed to grow support for Australian creativity by expanding the donor base and highlighting the value of the arts. The community is encouraged to unite on this day and make a tax-deductible donation to support Australian voices, new stories, and the future of theatre. Every gift goes straight to Australian playwrights.
