morgana : a new australian documentary : one double pass

In ‘Morgana’ a  lonely rural housewife’s plan to end it all takes an unexpected turn when her last hurrah begins a radical journey of sexual exploration and personal re-invention.

After 20 years as a dutiful housewife stuck in a loveless, sexless marriage, Morgana has had enough of her dreary life. Desperately lonely and starved of intimacy, she books a male escort for one last hurrah before ending it all.

Her final night takes an unexpected turn when her relationship with the escort opens up a new world of personal and sexual freedom.

After hearing about a competition for first time erotic filmmakers, Morgana directs and stars in a film about her own story, ‘Duty-Bound’.

Unexpectedly her film wins, catapulting her into the international Feminist Porn community. Life merges with art as Morgana uses erotic filmmaking as a tool for creative catharsis while struggling with demons from her past.

‘Morgana’, co-directed by Isabel Peppard and Josie Hess, has been doing well on the film festival circuit. It is a well made documentary and Morgana Muses makes for an authentic subject. Her journey is an exciting one, and she ends up spending time in Berlin,  a city known for its decadence and sophistication.

A late in life change of direction with boundless  energy, makes for a very appealing storyline. I remember seeing a play about a conservative woman who becomes a very hip, rock and roll, high profile disc jockey.

This story of Morgana, a woman whose libido suddenly roared after a life-changing escort date, made for irresistible viewing.

‘Morgana’ is to be released on Thursday 19th November and will screen exclusively at the Dendy Newtown cinema.
