PRIMAVERA 2025 is Presenting the work of early-career artists living and working in Australia, aged 35 years and under.

In its 34th year, curator Tim Riley Walsh brings together five artists who consider what it means to keep making things in a digital and post-industrial era.

Francis Carmody (VIC/NSW), Alexandra Peters (VIC), Augusta Vinall Richardson (VIC), Keemon Williams (QLD) and Emmaline Zanelli (SA) respond to this question by demonstrating the insights that an intimate relationship with materials and production can offer.

They also propose that, at a time when many people no longer see or understand how things are made, art can play a role in clarifying such processes. Through innovative approaches to sculpture and installation, the artists assert that making and engaging with art is a powerful means of reconnecting with the tangible in an increasingly abstract, digital world.

PRIMAVERA was initiated in 1992 by the MCA in collaboration with Dr Edward Jackson AM and Mrs Cynthia Jackson AM, in memory of their daughter Belinda.

Since its inception, Primavera has played an influential role in the development of contemporary art in Australia, introducing a generation of artists at an early stage of their careers to a broader public. Each year the curator of Primavera undertakes extensive research, meeting with young artists from across the country.

Primavera 2025: Young Australian Artists is supported by Lead Patron Lee Ming Tee Foundation, Major Patrons Chloe and Andrew Podgornik and MCA Next; the Museum’s program for young philanthropists.

PRIMAVERA 2025 IS ON EXHIBITION AT MCA Australia until tuesday 8 March 2026. MCA Australia is open every day between 10am and 5pm except  for Tuesdays when the Gallery is closed.
