love and virtue wins 2022 mud literary prize

Love & Virtue by Diana Reid (Ultimo) has won the fifth annual MUD Literary Prize.

Presented each year for the best debut literary novel by an Australian writer, the $5000 prize is awarded by Adelaide philanthropic group MUD Literary Club.

Reid’s debut was chosen from a shortlist that also included Before You Knew My Name (Jacqueline Bublitz, A&U), We Were Not Men (Campbell Mattinson, Fourth Estate) and When Things Are Alive They Hum (Hannah Bent, Ultimo).

The MUD Literary Prize judging panel for 2022 comprised Adelaide Writers’ Week director Jo Dyer, author Sean Williams, Writers SA director Jessica Alice and MUD Literary Club committee members Andrew Saies and David Sly.

Last year’s winner was Pip Williams for The Dictionary of Lost Words (Affirm).
