As the audience entered the Enmore’s Whipbird Wine Bar it was asked to write details of when they were given the sex talk. Funny and entertaining Jess Fuchs then mixed her anecdotes with audience responses to provide us with an hour of laughter, squeamishness and awkward embarrassment.
It seems a common approach is to give your child a book and then ask if there are any questions, which seems somewhat disengaged. It was better than the guidance given by a woman going through a disagreeable divorce, blurting out reckless advice to teenage girls. It makes good fodder for a comedy show but would have been an OMG moment for the girls.
Jess had lots of fun talking about meeting someone in real life instead of through a dating ap. Audience members were willing participants in the discussion and Jess was quick to take their responses and find unexpected comic elements in them.
The audience was fully along for the engaging and amusing ride, which created a great communal experience. As she threw in her thoughts about the phrase, “There are plenty of fish in the sea,” autism, and her Jewish background this uproarious and raunchy show had the audience continuously laughing and the one hour performance just flew along.
Jess Fuchs was performing as part of Sydney Comedy Festival 2025 at the Enmore Theatre in the Enmore Whipbird Wine Bar. It is worth looking out for any future shows.
