Harry Jun presented his funny and thoughtful show FRIENDSHIP SAFARI as part of the 2025 Sydney Comedy Festival. Harry is concerned about the loneliness epidemic in Western society and is keen to promote friendship with its many and varied benefits. His show is on at The Factory Theatre in Marrickville. The venue has several spaces where various comedy shows are running during the festival. The bar and food trucks were busy and popular, making the complex a lively and energetic venue. Marrickville is also home to a whole collection of craft breweries which add to its appeal as a location to visit.
His playful and awkward overtures as he tries to make friends with some audience members broke the ice and gets the crowd laughing and on his wavelength. His self-effacing tales of confused audiences and poorly attended shows continues the comedy and sets a merry mood. His range of topics includes emotionally distant Asian fathers, a broken-down sushi train, interspecies breeding and school friendships.
Harry tells stories about his previous career as a high school English teacher. As well as the intrinsic difficulties of teaching, Harry had to deal with the negative aspects of social media and specifically the pernicious influence of Andrew Tate. Harry encourages the audience, especially the male audience, to call out poor behaviour and toxic masculinity. He encourages men to show leadership and provide strong and positive role models to counteract cruel and inappropriate behaviour. It was a very strong part of the show and very unexpected in a comedy festival scenario.
Harry Jun is performing at The Factory Theatre until 27th April and his show is recommended. Harry also strongly recommended the Polish clown Piotr Sikora, performing as Furiozo and also at The Factory Theatre until 4th May.
