jon robin baitz’ ‘other desert cities’@ arts theatre cronulla

This is sharply observed dark comedy about people maintaining their false façades. It is a a stunning script by Jon Robin Baitz containing an unexpected outcome.

The whole family is visiting at the wealthy Wyeth’s family home, located in Palm Springs California on Christmas Eve 2004. Daughter Brooke has just written a politically and emotionally dangerous memoir about her life, her parents and the tragic loss of her older brother.  Her memoir sends shockwaves through the family.

Polly and Lyman Wyeth are old-guard Republicans, highly regarded in old Hollywood circles. Recently released from rehab, Polly’s sister Silda, is also living with them, and is a politically active Democrat.

Younger brother Trip has also arrived to spend quality time during this happy family holiday, if only the past could remain forever buried.

On Broadway, Jon Robin Baitz’s OTHER DESERT CITIES received five Tony Award nominations, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and winner of the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Play for 2010-2011.

The  production has an amazing cast expertly directed by Cheryl Butler.

OTHER DESERT CITIES has performances on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, with three 2 pm Sunday afternoon matinees, from 12th May until 17th June 2017 at the Arts Theatre Cronulla, 6 Surf Road, Cronulla, NSW, 2230
