Born in Guangzhou in 1978 and based in Beijing, Cao Fei has documented China’s rapid urbanisation and digital revolutions for over two decades. MY CITY IS YOURS is an invitation into a world of neon, street dance and pop music; a city both familiar and warped, real and virtual.
Staged as part of the Sydney International Art Series 2024–25 and exclusive to Sydney, MY CITY OF YOURS brings together key works from the artist’s 30-year career, including early portraits of cosplayers and street dancers shot on DV-cam to pioneering net art, video games, VR and immersive installations.
The exhibition also features debut major works created by Cao especially for the Art Gallery, including two new multimedia commissions.
The exhibition is now open and runs at the Gallery until the 13th April 2025. The exhibition is a ticketed event.
