




At first I was romanced and then I was flushed with excitement. The ballroom dancers gently drop into a smoky lit Waltz with Mark Stefanoff charming the violin behind the limelight before a quick step ball change into the Cha Cha, rumba, samba, salsa, jive, tango and quickstep…oh my.
With contemporary adaptations, breathtaking choreography, expressive storytelling and technique beyond words, it is evident why this cast were so carefully selected.
After worldwide shows from London’s West End, to New York’s Broadway, the Sydney Opera House presents an international cast including Two Australian ballroom dancers: Dancing with the Stars winner, Lily Cornish & acclaimed choreographer, Jorja Freeman.
Without the music there is no dance and music there surely is! Special guest is Prinnie Stevens, musical theatre & cabaret vocalist (Tongan/Australian), Tyler Azzopardi, musical director/vocalist/drums (Australian) and Mark Stefanoff vocalist/keys (Australian). Each delivering a soulful performance showcasing their dazzling musical and theatrical talents, adding yet another dimension to reinventing a ballroom performance.
The live band really makes you feel like you are on stage dancing too, bringing authentic rhythm to each step. The audience clapped and sang along. It is impossible to look away. Between the intense choreography to the seamless visual transitions dazzling your eyes, it really feels like magic.
First debuting in the UK in 1999, BURN THE FLOOR : BALLROOM REINVENTED has been successfully igniting everyone’s love for latin & ballroom dance across the globe. It has toured 130+ cities worldwide.
It is said the show’s concept was inspired from Elton John’s 50th Birthday in 1997. Producer Harley Medcalf came up with the idea for ballroom dance to be reinvented through a staged production. This took almost 2 years to come to life & lives on today.
