If you’re looking for something fun to do on Sunday 10 April, consider attending the next Blak Markets at Bare Island, La Perouse, in Sydney’s southeast.
Running from 10am to 3pm, the market will feature a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony with a cultural dance performance by Buuja Buuja Butterfly Dance Group and singing with Charlie Trindall.
According to CEO of First Hand Solutions, Peter Cooley, it’s a day to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, the oldest continuing culture in the world. “It is also an excellent opportunity to buy unique gifts, knowing that 100 per cent of the profits will flow back into Aboriginal communities,” Peter said.
Aside from entertainment, bushfood and coffee, festival goers can visit a range of Blak Markets stalls selling authentic Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts, crafts, clothing and accessories.
The Blak Markets, held every two months, take place at Bare Island within the Kamay-Botany Bay National Park with the support of Suncorp and Randwick City Council. The entry fee is $2.50 with children under five free.
