Kathryn Smith

Kathryn’s passion for theatre grew from early work experience at the Playhouse Theatre WA, where she was captivated by the energy and collaboration of live performance. This formative experience led to formal training in Performing Arts, Drama, and English Literature, then refined through a Master’s in Education with a focus on Theatre Practitioners at the University of Melbourne.

For over 25 years, Kathryn has taught Drama and IB Theatre across Australia and internationally. Her work in the IB space is a particular passion, developing practitioner-based performance work in both collaborative ensembles and solo projects. She is known for guiding students to create rigorous, original theatre that explores global traditions, contemporary practices, and critical thinking.

A dedicated director and published educational writer, Kathryn has also worked as an examiner of Drama and Theatre on a global scale. More recently, she has begun building her own theatre consultancy, supporting non-profit and emerging community theatre groups with creative development, direction, and production insight.
