Clouds have captured artist’s imaginations. they represent the boundless beauty and vastness of nature, and their infinite variations inspire a limitless range of ideas and emotions. this display riffs off the art of Renee Magritte whose paintings of clouds became icons of surrealism.
As you walk along the ground floor foyer of the Art Gallery, on the left side, there are some photographs by one of Australia’s finest conceptual photographer’s, the late Rosemary Laing
Laing made several series of work exploring flight and movement, often creating photographs with enigmatic imagery and surrealist overtones.
In the series of photographs entitled ‘green work’, Laing captured the residue of motion as the jetstreams from planes becomes misshapen clouds floating over the tarmac or in a vivid blue sky.
