Sydney’s Biggest Little Cabaret Festival is back, and now with two brand new side festival events with COMEDY+MAGIC performers every week, for just two Sundays during January 2016. Presenting the best in COMEDY+MAGIC including Australia’s best magicians, with each of the eleven performances delivered in under ten minutes.

Talented Australian magician and all round entertainer, Adam Mada, was the excellent Master of Ceremonies this week.  Adam is the associate producer for the Short and Sweet Festival for the Comedy + Magic Season in January as part of the 2016 Short+Sweet festival.

(1) ILLUSION THROUGH EXPECTATION

With delightful English Gentleman patter, Alex Moffat’s magic relies on your prior magic knowledge and your immediate expectations and mis-direction. This is Award-winning sleight of hand with just one deck of cards, six cards randomly chosen by audience and not seen by the magician, whilst one card was signed and seen by all, and then all the cards were put back. Heavily cut and heavily shuffled, by using magic, Alex correctly presented each of the six cards to the six audience members.         http://www.alexmoffat.com.au/

(2) THE LIFE AND TIMES OF PETER NORMAL –  Dudley Levell is PETER NORMAL, and he delivered a fresh and delightful comedy all about a British husband and his everyday life at home with his wife. “The thing is, I love doing the washing up.” Until his wife bought a Miele, he just loved hand washing the dishes. Also heard all about the does and the don’ts of threesomes, which struck an all too familiar note with many in the audience. Lots of well deserved laughter throughout.

(3) ADRIAN DEAN delivered the most impossible and yet exciting maths quiz solution, similar to an magician seen on TVs Penn and Teller – Fool Us. However this was so much better plus faster, as the required high level concentration solution was accomplished in just sixteen seconds, all while balanced very precariously on a circus roller-bowler, and having to deal with the audience throwing ping pong balls at him.        http://www.adriandean.com.au/

(4)  CJ DELLING advertises talents that include all of these: Comedian, writer, and maker of stuff for the easily amused. Far more important, CJ is a talented female with an amazing set of clever and very funny comedy based on things she has seen and noticed in her every day life. Think observational comedy monologue like JERRY SEINFELD.

CJ is a German who is now an Aussie for ten years, at least one hundred times funnier than SEINFELD. Her outlook on English Language euphemisms, and the many communication mis-understandings for a native speaker of German. Unusual definitions for “All stock must go”, “drinking cup of tea, “tea bagging”, “same sex”. A truly outstanding performance, all her explanations created constant, laugh out loud comedy.         http://www.cjdelling.com/

 (5)   DANIEL MUGGLETON   is one half of Mug and Kettle Comedy, and is a Sydney-based comedian. Comedy revolved around the fact that he is a white caucasian male. The trouble with racists and racism, in our politically correct world, is that only white caucasians can create race-based comedy about white caucasians. Very very funny and an audience pleaser too.

(6) ANDREW BOYD: THE MAGIC BARTENDER is an extraordinary illusionist, using magic to easily and suddenly reveal large items from nowhere. We hear the music Razzle Dazzle Them from the stage musical CHICAGO. First the full bottle of Bacardi Rum appeared, and then the lime, make that two limes. Everything required magically appeared from nowhere. At the end Andrew received long applause from an appreciative audience, especially the woman who ended up with a delicious free Rum Martini cocktail, created by magic, of course.

(7) TAKE RISKS TO IMAGINE – Moony D. is the Asian Magic Sensation, and he possesses the gentle Art of Persuasion, and the power of imagination, and why we must always take risks in our lives. Four audience members risked all, by trying to choose the correct red envelope containing one fifty dollar note, from the five offered, and all were magically persuaded to choose the wrong envelope.         http://www.moonydmagician.com/

(8) MAKEDONKA STOILOVA – Sydney Australia born with Macedonian Parents, presented her hilarious “fully sick time” comedy take with her delightful Memoirs of a Wog Girl. We learn about her roll-call school teachers trying to pronounce her first name, and incidents during her school days. Most especially that each and every woman, is so much more than making babies and feeding babies. An absolute crowd pleasing performance.

(9) DAVO: KING OF THE UNPOSSIBLEDale Trueman now living in Rooty Hill, states that he has been unemployed since being made redundant in the nineties, giving him the perfect opportunity to create the amazing magical performance. Whilst Davo discusses the eight foot kangaroo in the room, Davo uses a beer-mat to make a glass of beer appear and disappear as required, with Davo gradually drinking all the beer. The pleasant and gentle monologue, kept most of the audience roaring with laughter and then applauded precisely when he ran out of beer.

(10) TIMOTHY HYDE: AUSTRALIA’S MAGICIAN OF THE MIND Fresh from cruise ship contracts on Cunard’s Queen Mary 2. Timothy Hyde is one of Australia’s most accomplished ESP mystery performers. Two random people plucked from audience, pick one long word from any page, in the one book containing over 80,000 words. Yes both were not stooges. Timothy used his ESP powers to quickly determine that the chosen word in the book started with the letter K and then almost immediately that the word was KINDERGARTEN. Is ESP real? – You are the judge!?!

(11) ROB ANDREWS is a very fat man, living in a health conscious world. Continuous laugh riot as Rob Andrews shows and tells all, about his work life and his married life, as a portly teacher and much more. Learn about SPOT and PEPPER PIG, the trilogy of fat-dirty-smelly, plus Rob showed three unassisted ways to get up, off a floor.

Huge line up of fresh talent as well as some famous legends in magic. Two completely different shows have been programmed for the 17th and 24th. Recommended. Show B next week at S+S COMEDY+MAGIC has already been described by Adam as “more amazing entertaining performers”.
